Although Memorial Day simply marks the official start of summer to some folks, to the Americana Building Products family it’s much more. Our own National Sales Manager, Roy Woodward, served in the Navy during the Vietnam War, and is one of many of our employees and family members who have served their country. Memorial Day is a reminder of how fortunate we are to have them with us today.
On Monday, our local American Legion will gather its members at our town’s war memorial and invite veterans to share memories of their service and comrades who didn’t return home. The local grade school band will play several marches and the National Anthem, people will look for their loved ones’ names engraved on the memorial…it will be a little slice of American pie. We’re sure it’s the same in your town, too. If you’ve never taken the time to attend a Memorial Day ceremony, we’d like to encourage you to do it this year. Take a few minutes out of your afternoon…leave that big landscaping job or grill your tending…and rub elbows with some true American heroes.
This year, the Purcell family, owners of Americana Building Products, Americana Powder Finishing and PW Athletics, are especially grateful for the service of one of their own, Lance Corporal Grayson Purcell. Grayson is the grandson of CEO Gerald Purcell and the son of CIO Geff Purcell and has served in Afghanistan and Spain the past few years. When he is discharged from the Marines sometime in the next 8 months or so, he plans to join his family here at ABP. We’ll be excited to have him home and on board with us!
Our sincerest thanks to all of you who have served or have sent sons, daughters, wives, or husbands into service. You hold a special place in our hearts, and we wish you the very best of Memorial Days!
